Why there are no small engine cars in the U.S.?

Why there is no car such as Hyundai Amica (1,000 cc) or KIA Picanto (1,100 cc), which are exist in country like the U.K. and most of the Europe and Asia countries. Are there any regulations in the U.S. that restricting these kind of cars?

Federal regulations requiring 2.5mph bumpers, tail-lights of a certain size, crash-worthiness, emission standards, safety restraints meeting certain specifications, air bags etc.

Once all these things are put into a car, the car requires a larger engine to haul it all around, and has to be bigger to hold them all.

Say thank you to Jimmy Cattah in the ’70s for allowing the federal government to take over private sector decisions.

They can’t meet the federal minimum crash and saftey standards. They’re pretty much beer cans on wheels.

Apparently you have never heard of the Geo Metro with a 1000cc 3 cylinder.

exactly, the geo metro. the 3-banger! Pretty sad actually. And actually, when compared to engines in the 50’s-70’s, most car engines have gotten smaller due to government emission regulations. But I don’t know what YOU mean by engine. If you mean the engine block then yea. But if you mean everything under the hood then no.

Because we don’t want tiny super slow cars. Most other countries tax based on engine displacement meaning a car with a real engine will cost a fortune to buy. We don’t have that so there is no benefit to buying or building a car that nobody wants.
